Haiti's "pact with the devil" myth

Haiti's "pact with the devil" myth

"Is there any truth to what Pat Robertson is saying?

Of course not! Haitians are Christians. Pat Robertson's language is the reductio ad absurdum of the Christian right. It's so absurd it's almost funny. This notion of a pact with the devil is basically an echo of an old colonial response to the successes of the 1790s Haitian revolution.

What to say? Nothing except that most thinking individuals and those free from ideological biases of whatever kind are of the opinion that Pat Robertson is obviously looking for promotion in the wake of this tragedy. We should not lend him our ears. We should instead focus on helping those who have been left behind to cope with a country in ruins.

It is the stark reality.

  1. I cannot agree with Pat but many people worldwide have the wrong perceptions about Haiti. They think they are bad voodoo people.

His statements which many people were shocked to hear - many christians still believe bad things happen to bad people.
    'Undertsand his ignorance'

  2. Mauro, he is just a racist, who happens to have a following of zealous idiot bigots, fueling him monetarily. Even in the southern United States, most people with any kind of sense, would never pay attention to a word he said.
